Huyen Truong is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of Political and Social Change at ANU. She completed a Master degree in Public Policy at Harvard University. She is interested in studying social movement in Vietnam with focus on the case study of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) activism. Her research aims to examine the determinants of the emergence and development of LGBT movement in Vietnam, and identify strategies that LGBT movement has used to exert influence. Huyen Truong is also a Senior Policy Officer at Community Services Directorate, ACT Government. Previously, Huyen Truong worked for Oxfam Great Britain and United Nations Development Programs in Vietnam.
As a recipient of the Ben and Melinda Tria Kerkvliet Southeast Asia Research Award, Huyen Truong has been able to further her research into the LGBTIQ+ community in Vietnam.
