Denghua Zhang joined ANU DPA as a research fellow in January 2018. He completed his PhD program on Chinese foreign policy and trilateral aid cooperation at ANU in 2017. Prior to that he had a decade-long work experience as a former diplomat.
His research mainly focuses on international relations, development studies, Chinese foreign policy, foreign aid, trilateral aid cooperation and Asia-Pacific studies. He has published more than twenty academic papers including recently with The Pacific Review, Third World Quarterly, Asian Journal of Political Sciences, The Round Table, Asia and the Pacific Policy Studies and Security Challenges.
In the last couple of decades, China’s policy-driven academic research agenda has been a double-edged sword – it both promotes and hinders Pacific research.
