Philippa Louey

Commencing her PhD candidature at DPA in 2021, Pip Louey’s doctoral research examines the blue economy and sustainable ocean development in the Pacific Islands region. Her work is interested in how the blue economy is being translated from promise to practice in the Pacific, with keen attention to how this agenda delivers on its commitments to social justice and environmental sustainability.
Pip commenced her PhD candidature at DPA in 2021. She has undertaken a research internship at the Pacific Network on Globalization (PANG) and worked for five years with the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) as their Engagement Officer. Prior to joining DPA, Pip was awarded a Summer Undergraduate Research Scholarship at UNSW Canberra (2020) in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. Alongside her PhD, Pip serves as the Project Officer for the “Student Wellbeing Curriculum Integration Project” which aims to better understand how student wellbeing resources and initiatives can be integrated into learning environments across Australian and New Zealand universities.
Before commencing at DPA, Pip was awarded a Summer Undergraduate Research Scholarship at UNSW Canberra (2020) in the School of Humanities & Social Sciences. She also served as the Project Officer for the UNSW Student Wellbeing Community of Practice (CoP) where she supported research on the impact of COVID-19 and related university response measures on student wellbeing.
In 2019, Pip was a recipient of the Australian Foreign Affairs Next Voices Award.
