Xiaoxuan Li commenced her MPhil candidature at the Department of Politics and Social Change at ANU in July 2016. Prior joining the department, she got a BA in Sociology from China Agricultural University with the Best Thesis Award. From 2014 to 2015, she worked on the topic of transnational labor migration in Henan Province, China, with a focus on how state-owned intermediaries regulate, manage and train labors and why migrants persist in going abroad when they can get hired at the same salaries at home. Her current thesis will be designed to continue this topic, but pay more attention to studying how migrants pursue a good life when transnational migration cannot promise certainties.
