In Brief

Tess Newton Cain highlights some of the key themes that emerged during the State of the Pacific Conference and the PNG and Pacific Update events, held in June 2013. She argues that forums such as these are important for all players including researchers, policymakers, politicans, and civil society actors, to ensure ongoing discussions on key issues for the region. She notes that such discussions are particularly important as key events such as the 2014 Fiji Elections, the ending of the 10-year autonomous governing period in Bougainville and the next milestone in the Noumea Accord lay ahead.
