This chapter provides an overview of the wide-ranging scholarship on childhood with a special focus on children’s rights, justice and advocacy. A key question that is explored is how to move beyond the simple binary of children’s passive role and their agency in South Asian politics. While it is adults who wage political violence, children’s participation, recruitment, agency and resourcefulness in these experiences are also very complex. This chapter examines how global norms and agendas influence the politics of childhood in South Asia.
