Vanessa Newby, ‘Walk the Line: An Investigation of the Micro-Processes of a UN Peacekeeping Mission’, Working Paper #37, Beirut: Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs, American University of Beirut, September 2016.
Managing both inter and intra-state issues makes the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) a complex mission despite the fact that it was borne of an era when peacekeeping missions tended to be kept simple. How do we understand UNIFIL today in the context of the changes that have occurred in peacekeeping over the past twenty years? This working paper investigates the work of UNIFIL since the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 in 2006.
