Geopolitics, cybersecurity and sustainability are important issues when it comes to the rollout of information and communication technologies in the Pacific region. This presentation will explore these issues through examination of undersea internet cables.

Undersea internet cables increase capacity and assumptions are often made about their potential positive impacts on uptake, pricing, speeds and reliability. This presentation will: introduce the undersea internet cables in the Pacific region; outline ongoing research regarding mobile internet pricing and speeds and present results to date; and consider questions related to sustainability, cybersecurity and geopolitics.
