The workshop will consider a range of important topics, including:

  • What role regionalism played in managing COVID-19

  • What recent disasters have told us about HADR cooperation in the Pacific

  • Pacific responses to China’s proposed economic and security pact

  • What partners can do to assist regional security cooperation in the future, particularly in the maritime domain

  • What a ‘fit for purpose’ regional architecture might look like in the Pacific

  • How security cooperation can be meaningfully facilitated between local, national, and regional levels

This workshop is the culmination of a three-year project led by Joanne Wallis from the University of Adelaide, alongside James Batley and Henrietta McNeill from The Australian National University, Anna Powles from Massey University, Alan Tidwell from Georgetown University, and Hidekazu Sakai from Kansai Gaidai University.

With funding from an Australian Department of Defence Strategic Policy Grant, the aim of the project is to identify how Pacific security cooperation could be best orientated to address current and future regional security challenges. We look forward to seeing you at the workshop and welcome your contributions to the discussions.
