ANU VC launches Understanding Oceania

15 June 2019

During his 11-14 June 2019 visit to Suva Professor Brian Schmidt, Australian National University Vice Chancellor launched Understanding Oceania, a book edited by DPA’s Stewart Firth and the University of the South Pacific’s (USP) Vijay Naidu.

The book is inspired by USP, which has been responsible for the formation of a regional elite of educated Pacific Islanders who can be found in key positions in government and commerce across the region. At the same time, the book celebrates the collaboration of USP with ANU in research, doctoral training, teaching and joint activities. Twelve of the books 19 contributors gained their doctorates at ANU, most of them before or after being students and/or teaching staff at USP.
