Project priorities

Coombs Tea Room

The College has worked closely with its contracted architect and builder, the University and the National Capital Authority to plan the project and ensure it meets the needs of staff and students at the College.

The following areas of the Coombs Building will be refurbished:

  • Student Centre
  • Entrance and foyer
  • Tearoom with catering kitchen
  • Common facilities including kitchens
  • Teaching spaces

The project will also include:

  • Increased shared working spaces including meeting rooms and breakout areas
  • Improved temperature management including new insulation, double glazed windows and ceiling fans
  • Improved internal and external accessibility
  • Improved signage and wayfinding
  • New prayer room and family room
  • New maps storage facility

A number of changes are not possible as part of the Project, including:

  • Upgrades to Coombs Lecture Theatre as critical teaching spaces are required to remain unchanged while the Union Court redevelopment is underway
  • Upgrades to shared spaces outside Coombs Building as this would impact access to Coombs Lecture Theatre
  • Air conditioning in offices as there is insufficient electrical supply to the Coombs Building
  • Upgrades to bathrooms as most were recently refurbished
  • New wet lab due to new labs recently being built in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences which are available to staff in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific
