In order to engage in an informed manner in a democracy, it is essential for citizens to have access to up-to-date and reliable information. A free and independent media sector is vital. In addition, people must have access to affordable and dependable means of accessing media outputs, such as daily newspapers and radio and television broadcasts. Research outputs in this area relate to media freedom and news media coverage of major events. Research also examines disinformation in the Pacific region.
